How patients agree to receive texts
Last updated: October 19, 2026
Summit Payments provides a phone receptionist for dental practices. When a patient calls a participating practice and wants to pay a balance or save a card on file, the receptionist can text a secure iPOS Pays link. It only sends a text after the caller agrees on the call.
What the receptionist says
Before sending any text, after confirming the caller's name and mobile number, the receptionist asks one short question, word for word:
For a payment link: "Can I text you a secure payment link from Summit Payments? Message and data rates may apply. By saying yes, you agree to our texting terms and privacy policy at getsummit.co."
For a card-on-file link: "Can I text you a secure link to save your card on file, from Summit Payments? Message and data rates may apply. By saying yes, you agree to our texting terms and privacy policy at getsummit.co."
If the caller says yes
The receptionist says: "Thank you. You'll get a text from Summit Payments in a moment."
The receptionist then sends the link. The first text confirms the caller is opted in and explains HELP and STOP. It says: "Summit Payments: You're opted in to payment link texts, 1-2 msgs per request. Msg & data rates may apply. Reply HELP for help, STOP to opt out. Questions: [email protected] or (844) 701-2738."
If the caller says no or isn't sure
If the caller says no, the receptionist says: "No problem, I won't send any texts. I can take a message so someone from the office calls you back to help with your payment, or you can pay at your next visit." The receptionist sends no text. Saying no never blocks the caller from getting help.
If the answer is unclear, the receptionist asks once: "Just to confirm, is it OK for Summit Payments to text you? Yes or no?" If it is still not a clear yes, the receptionist treats it as a no and sends no text.
If the caller asks on the call to stop texts, the receptionist says: "Got it, I'll make sure you don't get any more texts."
